Your own guinea pig undoubtedly makes the many sounds the species is known for. What does it try tell you or other guinea pigs?
- Wheeking: this is the sound a guinea pig makes when it knows, thinks or wants that it is going to be fed. You can also hear a squealing sound when your pet wants attention or wants to get out of the cage.
- Teeth chattering: this is the type of sound that guinea pigs usually utter towards its own kind, when they are angry or irritated, when you introduce a new guinea pig or as a territorial message.
-
Rumbling and high-pitched purring: Your pet is irritated when you hear a single purr. Try to find out why, so you can be aware of it in the future. Does your male make a longer and low rumbling noise? Then he may want to mate.
- Soft cooing, purring: guinea pigs are at ease and content when they make this noise. When they go out and discover, when they are petted, or when they want to let each other know that they are there ...
- Shrieking: this noise is easily confused with purring, however, it indicates a problem: your guinea pig is in pain, lost or in panic. If you hear this, check if everything is ok. Are you not sure why your darling is screaming? Then contact your vet.
