Hamster toys

Five favourite toys of every hamster

To prevent your hamster from getting bored or too fat, it is a good idea to place some cool toys in the cage. You can find many toys for small mammals in your local pet shop. You may even already have some of them at home, even if you do not know it yet. The following five toys are guaranteed to make your darling happy.

1. Running wheel for your hamster

We do not have to tell you: hamsters have a lot of energy to spend. A running wheel is therefore a must in the cage. Buy a wheel with a diameter of 18 to 25 cm, without bars. Otherwise, your baby risks getting stuck with his paw.

2. Tunnels and tubes

Another must! Your hamster can run through them happily, but they also offer an excellent hiding place. Some cages have an extensive tunnel system that your pet can explore to your its heart's content. But it will undoubtedly also be happy with a tube of toilet or kitchen paper as a tunnel.

3. Toys to gnaw

on Either your hamster sleeps/runs in a tube of toilet or kitchen paper ... or your pet gnaws the cardboard for nesting material. Good for his teeth! If you want you can put a snack in the tube and squeeze it on both sides to stimulate gnawing. You can also buy wooden toys on which your hamster can use his teeth.

4. Cardboard box

You can, of course, also buy a nice house for your hamster. Make sure that it can be opened easily to clean it. Or you can offer your darling a cardboard box to live in, without any plastics. When it becomes too dirty, you can just replace it. Very convenient!

5. Ball with delicacies

Finally, to stimulate your hamster physically and mentally, it is a great idea to provide a ball filled with favourite snacks. Your pet will push against the toys so it will release a nice reward.

What about the exercise ball as a toy?

This toy, with which a hamster can walk around outside the cage, is not without risk. The animal may choke inside the ball if it is not ventilated enough. Or injure himself when he or she hits walls or furniture too hard. Exercise balls are therefore not suitable for hamsters.
