Keeping your chicken run free of foxes

Are you considering keeping chickens in your garden? Then be sure to consider predators. The biggest threat to your chickens is undoubtedly the fox. Foxes are often on the hunt at night.

There are some ways to protect your chickens:

Provide a solid fence that is at least 250 cm high. This makes it hard for a fox to jump over it. Always remember not to place any large objects next to the run. A fox can use it as an intermediate level to jump over the fence. If you have a fence that is at least as high as yourself, you can choose to span the run, for example with a net.

Be sure to keep in mind that foxes can also dig. Make sure that your wire or fence is buried at least 50 cm in the ground. It is also advisable to place outdoor tiles around the fence. They prevent the fox from digging near the fence.
The biggest threat to your chickens is undoubtedly the fox .

If you want to be completely sure, close the chicken coop hatch in the evening. This way the chickens are safe inside. Do not forget to open it again in the morning. Is this not an option for you due to lack of time or do you not feel like it at all? No problem! There are now also automatic hatches that close in the evening and open in the morning without you having to be there.

There should be several options available in the shop. For example, you can use a timer to set the time when the hatch closes and opens. Please note: Do not forget to adjust this hour when switching from summer time to winter time. Chickens do not have a clock and go into the coop when it gets dark!

A system with a light sensor is also a possibility. The hatch opens and closes at sunrise and sunset rather than at a fixed time.
